Mellon is Scotland’s Top Man.

Well Done Michael!

Michael Mellon has taken the annual award for Scotland wheelchair player of the year for the second year in a row. Last year following his impressive start to rugby league with Dundee Dragons and a late call up to the national team Michael has excelled.

The award which is named after Scotland captain Graeme Stewart who won the inaugural award in 2013 is given to Scotland’s international player of the year. This is based on performances and selected by the Scotland management with three votes cast each.

“Michael has once again lead the way this year” explains Scotland coach Jamie Seery. “It has been an historic year with our best ever performance at an international tournament and Michael played a massive part in that achievement. Not only does he perform in every game, he also motivates other around him which is key to the success of any team”

Aberdeen-born Michael, who is a below-knee amputee, played running rugby for the RAF when he was in the Services. He was the unanimous choice of the Scotland management team, with Daniel Grant runner-up and Graeme Stewart in third.

Mellon will receive his award early in the New Year.
