Wheelchair Badminton

Wheelchair badminton is one of the most popular activities at Dundee Dragons, offering a fun, inclusive, and fast-paced sport for players of all ages and abilities.

Whether you’re picking up a racquet for the first time, looking to improve your skills, or enjoy a competitive match, our Saturday sessions provide a welcoming environment where everyone can take part. Our experienced volunteers and members are always on hand to help you get started.

Badminton is an excellent way to improve fitness, coordination, balance, and wheelchair handling, while also enjoying the social side of the club.

About Para-Badminton

Para-badminton follows the same core rules as badminton, with adaptations to ensure fair competition across different impairment groups. Players compete in men’s and women’s singles, doubles, and mixed doubles events.

To ensure fair competition, athletes are grouped into Sport Classes based on how their impairment affects play.

Wheelchair Sport Classes

  • WH1 – Players with greater impairment affecting trunk and lower limb function.
  • WH2 – Players with less impairment, allowing greater trunk movement and reach.

    Standing Sport Classes
  • SL3 – Standing players with significant lower limb impairment.
  • SL4 – Standing players with a lesser lower limb impairment.
  • SU5 – Standing players with upper limb impairment.

    Short Stature Sport Class
  • SS6 – Players with short stature.

Para-badminton made its Paralympic debut at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and continues to grow worldwide as an exciting, highly skilled, and accessible sport.
